Research has revealed that people who are energy conscious in their home are more likely to transfer this behaviour to their work life. By offering home energy saving workshops to staff, many organisations find that there is a reduction in energy use at work.
In our role as an Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre, Carbon Descent can give energy saving advice in a variety of settings, visiting businesses over lunch periods to provide information and advice to staff and guests. We offer advice on low and no cost ways to reduce energy use and give information on renewable technologies, insulation, transport, waste and water. Additionally, we provide free low energy light bulbs and offer information about grants and discounts that are available.
During the advice sessions at the GLA and Visit London, the employees pledged to reduce their emissions by 20% and completed Home Energy Checks. From this information the Energy Saving Trust provides a free, personalised report listing the measures that can be undertaken at home to improve the energy efficiency, save money on bills and help the environment.
Linklaters Solicitors invited Carbon Descent, representing the Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre, to their World Environment Day 2008. We provided free low energy light bulbs and Powerdowns (a device designed to turn computers and computer components off standby) to all those who filled out a Home Energy Check. Our qualified energy advisers handed out information leaflets and answered questions regarding domestic energy efficiency, transport and renewables. The event turned out to be very popular with around 250 people attending over their lunch period.
